EAS - Emergency Alert System
Q. What exactly is EAS?
A.
EAS stands for Emergency Alert System. It is a national public warning system that requires all Broadcasters and Cable TV systems to provide a method for the President to address the American public during a National Emergency. The system is also used by State and local authorities to deliver important emergency information such as weather information or flood potential to affected areas.
Q. How will it affect my TV viewing?
A.
When the alert is received it automatically triggers a series of events that will override the TV shows you were watching and replace it with the information contained in the alert.
Q. Do I have to watch it?
A.
Yes, the EAS override should occur on all channels simultaneously.
Q.
Is there anything I can do to avoid this?
A.
No, we are required by law to receive and distribute these alerts to all subscribers at the same time.
Q. Where can I get more information on this Emergency Alert System?
A.
