Broadband FAQs
Q. How long does it take to get DSL installed?
A. An installation date will be scheduled approximately 1 to 2 weeks from the time we receive your completed subscription form.
Q. Can I connect more than one computer to my DSL service and how?
A. You can connect your DSL modem to an Ethernet Switch that has multiple ports. Connect your computer(s) to the other ports and you can share the connection.
Q. Can I connect to DSL using a wireless connection?
A. Yes, MIDTEL will install a wireless network in your home for a one-time charge of $150. You are, of course, free to go out and purchase your own wireless router.
Q. I have my own wireless router. Can I connect that to my DSL service?
A. Yes. The best way to do this is by setting your router's Internet/WAN connection to connect over PPPoE. When asked for a username and password to use with PPPoE, use your MIDTEL NET email address/username. Note, the PPPoE setup will not work with the Best Data family of DSL modems. If you are having this problem, please contact the business office.
Q. How fast is DSL? How can I test my speed?
A. Our basic DSL service has a download speed of 3000kbps (3Mbps). The speed of a typical dialup connection is 50kbps. DSL is more than 50 times faster than dialup. You can stream CD quality audio from the Internet at 194kbps. Most streaming video on the net is broadcast between 300kbps and 500kbps. To test the download speed of your connection please use our Internet Speedtest.
